"With integrity and wisdom, John Breeding has written a groundbreaking book that deserves the attention of every responsible parent. His absorbing Eyes Wide Open is a wake-up call to parents whose children desperately need protection against the many forms of oppression and exploitation they are now being routinely subjected to." - Leonard Roy Frank, Activist and Editor of The Electroshock Quotation
Description
'Eyes Wide Open' is an effort to shed some light on the amazing and seemingly unlimited capacity of our species to live and act from a place of denial and unreality. It seems we humans are intensely vulnerable to conditioning, and that large numbers of us misperceive reality and act in destructive ways as a result. Using this book Prof. Breeding attempts to explain how this happens and offers a few thoughts on a way out. The book consists of two parts. Book 1, 'A 21st Century Manifesto for Parenting', is a practical confrontation of some things parents must face about our highly distressed society in order to protect their children. Book 2, 'Eyes Wide Open', is a sequel, confronting the fact that protecting our own individual children is not enough, that without significant change in the way humans govern the world, our children will not have a future. This little book tries to crack a chink in the colossus of denial and ignorance, the notion being, to paraphrase the great songwriter, Leonard Cohen, that the crack is where the light gets in.
About the Author
Prof. John Breeding is a father of two from Texas, USA, he was born in 1952. He is a psychology professor who became aware of the problem of modern psychiatry whilst working in mental health services. He always intended to become a Catholic priest until his teens, this would account for the 'spiritual' aspect of his thinking. He is extremely active in campaigning on the negative effects that prescribed medication can have on youngsters in the US.

Did you know that a few years ago, a university research program here in the US picked one hundred 100% healthy people and asked them to go to psychiatric hospitals and lie by saying they were hearing voices? They were evaluated by psychiatrists and the huge majority were admitted. Then 6 weeks later they all (having been told previously by the university) said that they were not hearing them any more, never had been. It took some of them a year before the hospitals would let them out!!!!!!!!!!!Well I didn't know this either before I read this book....
Then the university published these results and said publicaly that they would be performing the same experiment next year. But they didn't send anyone this time, they didn't do anything, they just let the hospitals believe they were going to. And the hospitals, nationwide, refused HUNDREDS of people treatment and admission, saying they didn't believe they were hearing voices! That they thought they were part of this university research!
Now, it is very worrying that the university's actions resulted in people not getting treatment, and I am not so naive as to think that there is no-one who can be helped by psychiatric care (if it is good) and that some of these people might need to be taken in against their will (but still treated with respect and humanity)...
But isn't it more worrying that the psychiatrists REFUSED to believe patients who said they had never been ill.
AND then turned away people bravely and genuinely asking for psychiatric help, because they believed they were lying and part of a research program?
It shows that the psychiatric system (and I blame that more than individual doctors who are probably well intentioned at first but get taken over) has no respect for the words, opinions and feelings of their patients, those they are trying to help.
And this is one of the less eye opening facts and pieces of thorough research in this little book. ADHD, medical drugs for children, the power of the pharmaceutical industry. I know we all know a lot of this already, but this book, jees, it just gave me so many glaring but well-researched facts. A thorough, meaty introduction to some of the long-standing problems of our business governed country. Now I just want to read more
