The Bordeaux and Beyond Travel Guide is a pocket guide to the best of Bordeaux, written by two award-winning travel experts. This inexpensive mini-guide is about 8,500 words long, which is equivalent to a printed pocket guidebook of about 40 pages. The guide has over 30 colour photos taken by the authors, and maps to all the major sights, hotels and restaurants.

Bordeaux and Beyond is published by Beyond London Travel. Companion guides in the same series include Toulouse and Beyond, Marseille and Beyond, Lyon and Beyond, Corfu and Beyond, Amsterdam and Beyond, and Montpellier and Beyond.

Bordeaux and Beyond is a guide to one of the major cities in France, and the capital of the world wine trade. Wine has been made here since the 8th century, and this guide explores the wine side of the city in full. It includes accounts of visits to several nearby chateaux, information on wine tours, the Bordeaux Wine Festival, and a short primer on wine tasting.

The book describes the best sights to see in Bordeaux itself, including the Golden Triangle, the museums of the Museum Quarter, the Chartrons District, the new City of Wine, the Place de la Bourse and the Quartier St-Pierre. In addition, the Beyond Bordeaux chapter has some of the easiest and most appealing excursions from the city, including to Cognac.

The guide also has sections on the best shopping, and recommends the best spas and a range of personally-selected hotels and restaurants to suit all budgets.

For sports fans there’s a section on activities in and around Bordeaux, with a special section on the main sport stadium for football and rugby fans, the Stade Chaban-Delmas. The Bordeaux and Beyond Travel Guide includes details of transport to the stadium, with information on the city’s best sports bars.

The 4th edition of this popular Bordeaux travel guide was updated and published in August 2017, with maps for all the main sights, restaurants and hotels, with interactive versions of the maps available online if you have internet access.

This guide is packed with ideas on where to eat and shop, find a hotel, the top sights to visit, choosing wine, day visits to châteaux and museums, where to find English pubs, spa visits ... and a lot more. It's a great little book for anyone going for the day who doesn't want to wade through the screeds of information you find in many of the larger guides. It's also great as a launch pad for anyone staying a bit longer who wants to discover more in and around Bordeaux including some of the surrounding towns and villages. There is also some background history in the different sections and links to useful websites. I would suggest using this gem of a book in conjunction with the Bordeaux Tourist Information website (the link is in the book) as this book will give you an overview of everything you might need while the TI website will give you info on current events. Oh, and the TI site has a free, downloadable map in PDF format which you can print out and take with you or keep on your phone.

Criticisms... I would have liked the authors to have included one or two budget restaurants in the listing but the book only starts with moderately priced restaurants. However, Bordeaux is a major French city and you can just wander around in the city centre for a bit if you want to eat in an economically priced eatery - even MacDonalds! Or maybe the French food is just so good that they don't have budget restaurants!

Bordeaux and Beyond Travel Guide eBook Donna Dailey Mike Gerrard Reviews

Vale pelo preço, mas não acrescenta mais que o google! Não é nem um pouco completo... Poucas dicas no livro...
It is easy to read; almost too short, so it doesn't say much. I didn't like that it has not a single map, which is awkward in a travel guide.
I think Bordeaux deserves better.
I was disappointed in the minimal information. It almost feels as though someone took a vacation in Bordeaux and wrote it up, with a little help from their snaps and Wikipedia . Guess it pays for their trips but I won't buy one of these again.
Convenient guide. From my recent experience in Bordeaux, I found the information pretty accurate. I would have liked to see more restaurants listed. The ones listed were accurately described. Also more hotels. The Quality Hotel in Center City was not listed but was well rated and convenient.
Worth the money. Having it on the made it easy to tote around.
Am very pleased with this book - it was just what I wanted. As I didn't know Bordeaux, I was after something which outlined and informed about sites to visit within the city, but I didn't really want to wade through pages and pages of information. So, this was ideal for me.

I particularly liked the section on wines, vineyards, cognac etc, perhaps because this was of more interest to me. The author gave plenty of interesting information about wine, tours and tastings, along with contact details for these tours.

I also found his selection of hotels really useful because, if you don't know the city, it can be extremely difficult knowing which hotel to plump for.
